Good easy read. This is an incredibly important part of world history that most of us don't know.
I always knew of Mao Zedong, but didn’t know almost 80% of the information and details that this short hour read brought about!
These Hourly History book serve their purpose as a good synopsis of the person or thing.It's a quick read lending a good sketch.
Short and easy read! Learned in a lot about how Mao's power came into being!!!i would highly recommend it for those who are curious and want to learn quickly about China.

Another succinct gem from 'Hourly History'.
Mao comes across as successfully lifting himself from virtually nowhere to lead the world's most populace nation; but then to become incredibly erratic and irrational.
The frightful wars with Japan are sometimes forgotten by westerners.
The author had a particularly annoying (but common) habit of inserting an unwarrented apostrophe when adding an 's' to a year, such as the 1960's ...... !!
Very superficial summary of Mao's life. Enough here to write a term paper on, but not in depth enough to show whether he was a monster like Stalin or savior for the Chinese. Wikipedia has more info, which is not enough, either. Mao was responsible for millions of deaths, maybe the proof is not recorded, but I will look elsewhere.
This book really helps shed light on a man who conquered a nation that went on to be a Global Superpower in less than a century. Schools here only offer the most cursory glance at such figures and our media paints them as evil dictators. Here we have a much more detailed view of the man as he really was, but information from such a restrictive nation limits sources.
Despite the limitations and challenges we find a very effective and enlightening look into the life of cruel dictator.
